By Water: For those who want to reach Andaman by water, ships are operated by the Indian Government from Kolkata, Chennai and. This journey will take you almost 3 to 4 days, and you will land at the main sea-port at Port Blair.
Note: However, we don’t recommend travelling by sea because it’s not a cruise-type but more of a basic passenger + cargo ship and in these ships there are no entertainment options, long journey duration, limited food choice and you may face sea-sickness and also travellers will have to physically visit the Tickets Corporation Offices in Chennai, Calcutta and Visakhapatnam.

To reach Havelock, you can take a private or Government ferry from Port Blair. These ferries operate daily but be careful while booking the Government ferry as it is cheaper option to travel so it may be slow and can also be unclean. These are usually for the locals and we suggest you book at least 3 days in advance by going through a ticket booking counter. They are not as reliable as their private counterparts.
Private ferries are air-conditioned and will take you from Port Blair to Havelock in 1.5 hours approx. and 1 hour approx. from Neil Island. You can book them online without a hassle, and they’re the fastest commute between the islands. Private ferries are the ideal mode of transport for travellers.

Take a government or a private ferry to reach this island. We recommend a private ferry for this journey too as the online booking is much easier and will provide a quality experience for you. The journey takes about 1.5 hours from Port Blair and about 1 hour from Havelock.
Due to the most of Area is covered with forest so it is less populated and lack of vehicles, markets, and resorts, Neil Island is best suited for people who’d like to stay far from the city noises and into the wonderful world of complete serenity. Also the island has non-existent internet connectivity and patchy cellular network which usually cuts off your outside communication and helps you detox yourself from the digital world and into the lap of nature, breathing fresh air.
The roads are thin and long and connect the island’s jetty to all major attractions. The trip to the destination is quite mesmerizing as the roads are surrounded by long banana plantations, paddy fields, and other agricultural greenery.
Neil is better explored by either a rented bike or bicycle due to its size, flat area, and the peace of mind you get when traveling. Apart from this, the hotels in Neil further commend the vibe of the island. Most of the hotels and resorts here, are located near the beaches or in the jungles, which is hard to find anywhere else in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
